· Most of us who write for web content on a regular basis are familiar with E-Zine articles. E-Zine now offers a university run by a well-known internet publisher. The university specializes in courses for e-zine writers and anyone who writes for the internet.
· MIT offers free writing courses that are designed to help the fiction and essay writer perfect his/her style.
· The journalism courses featured at News University are aimed at training journalists in editing, writing, ethics, and reporting.
· Open University in based in the UK and is considered to be the UK’s biggest and most achieved learning institution. They have a website called OpenLearn which features many different types of writing courses, both graduate and undergraduate.
· Purdue University has an online writing school that is free to anyone and is prestigious enough that it is used as a teaching tool at universities and colleges everywhere. Called the OWL (for Online Writing Lab), the site has links to instruction in proper grammar usage, many different types of writing help and even individual help in the form of an online tutor.
· Wikipedia is a very popular site and they now offer Wikiversity. Wikiversity has many different online classes and even offers a few tutorials. Several of these classes are writing courses. They are all different in content and in the time needed to complete them, but they are very comprehensive.
An online writing school could be beneficial to anyone who writes full-time as a job, even those of us who have been doing it for awhile. A little refresher course never hurt anyone and you never know when you might learn something new that will help to move you along in the internet world.
